I was re-reading Alan Dean Foster’s ALIEN novelization this morning (and the “decompression scene”), and I came across something I had not noticed before on page 211: one of the abandoned plans for killing the Big Chap.
(This appears in the novelization before the crew discover the alien has broken into the food locker, which leads to following it into the air vents…)

This reminded me of a scene from another science fiction classic horror film, “The Thing from Another World (1951). Here is a clip:
Had the crew of the Nostromo tried this, we can only imagine the acid-y mess it could have created, but wouldn’t that have been something to see?
