I read today that the effects artist behind the ALIEN title sequence died Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Richard Alan Greenberg set new standards for graphic design in motion, famous for his work on Superman (1978), Alien (1979), Altered States (1980), The World According to Garp (1982), The Untouchables (1987), Dirty Dancing (1987), Death Becomes Her (1992), Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) and Edge of Darkness (2010).

The transformative nature of the ALIEN titles sequence has inspired many artists, even in static graphic art.

Take a moment to mark Greenberg’s passing by watching the title sequence, won’t you?
